Commissions!

So I'm super excited! I've had my first  two commissions! My soon to be sister-in-law wants me to paint her nails for her wedding and a lady at my church wants me to make her 2 sets of fake nails for her trip to Hawai'i!

My almost sister wants something fairly simple (surprise, surprise :) ). They are going to be French Tips with either flowers (made by my somewhat modified method of one-stroking) or with a cute little flowery bow thing in the top corner with sparkly outlines of sorts. I know how good I am at making sense when I describe something, so here are some pictures!

The other lady wants some cute little flowery things to 'blend in' with flowery Hawai'i. Her first set is actually the same as one of my sister-in-law's. It's the French Tip with the 'one-stroke' flowers. The other pair has a solid background with 3 of my modified one-stroke flowers with little swirly things and dots scattered around. Once again, here are some pictures of the latter design!

On a completely different note, I found this hilarious article yesterday. Apparently some lambs and their mom were trying to escape the cold and found their way into a store and tried to eat all of the Easter candy! I feel terrible for the owners, but the lambs look so cute you can't really be too mad at them.

Ramblings

This isn't nail related, so if you only want to see nails turn away now! :)

Part of it is somewhat related to my nail post yesterday though. Sort of. After I painted my Alice in Wonderland I was Google-ing (who knew googling wasn't a word?) Alice related things just for the heck of it and I came across the coolest thing! This is all of the characters from the second Alice book, Through the Looking Glass. The artist did steal a few characters from the first book, but they are mainly from the second. The whole book is basically a giant chess game, so whoever made these made the characters into actual chess pieces! It kind of made my day a little... :)

On another note, my best friend/non-blood-related-sister Ammie (pronounced like Amy) has a blog too! She's actually the one that inspired me to finally create my blog. I had been wanting to make one for a while but never got up the nerve to. Anyways, you should go visit hers! It's really awesome (I think so, anyway)! Ammie's blog isn't about anything too specific like mine, but it's cool! She is amazing! Her blog name is On Mirror's Edge.

I think that's all my exciting, non-nail related news for now! Back to fun 'ole college for me! :)

Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass

I am a huge fan of Alice! I probably like the book the best, but some of the movies are good too! I absolutely had to do some Alice-themed nails, so here they are! I tried to base them more off the original illustrations rather than any of the movies.

It was so hard to decide which drawings to make! I eventually decided on what you see in the pictures (obviously!). :) For my right hand I painted Alice's dress and stockings, the talking flowers (specifically the Tiger Lily), the Caterpillar and his colorful clouds of hooka smoke, the painted roses, and the Mad Hatter's hat. Then on the left I painted the Cheshire after he's mostly disappeared, the Queen of Hearts' crown, the White Rabbit's checked waistcoat and pocket watch, the Red Queen's Crown, and the Queen of Hearts' royal livery (as seen on the White Rabbit).
(For those of you that don't know, the Red Queen is from the second part of the book, Through the Looking Glass. She is the chess Queen that gives Alice the most advice).

I tried to keep the images true to the illustrations, but it's hard! I'm pretty happy with the designs though! I hope you guys like them! The Caterpillar and his hooka smoke is probably my favorite because it's so colorful!

I used a billion different polishes, so I'll just list them here at the end instead of with the actual designs.

The Beginning (of sorts)

Welcome to my blog! I'm Sarah and I'm just sharing my nail art to whoever cares to see it! Nail art is a recently developed hobby of mine. I started a little over a year ago - my first design was for Valentine's Day! I'm not professional by any means and (like most people, I think), completely self-taught. I also do all of my designs on my natural nails and they are generally hand painted, not stamped or sticker-ed or anything.

I can't promise that I won't sometimes deviate from posting just about nail art/polishes... I'm really good at getting off track! I should have a new design up about every week, depending on how busy I am. I'm still in college (and I'm an art major), so I can't always fit in a new design as often as I'd like.... :)

My blog is going to be mainly design related, so if you're hoping to see swatches you'll have to look somewhere else. Sorry! I might do the occasional swatch on my busier weeks, but designs are my favorite!

If you want to see any of my designs that I've done up until now you can either go to my Deviant Art or Pinterest pages by way of the links on the top right side of my blog. I also have a shop on Etsy where I'm selling fake nails that I have painted my designs onto. The link for that is on the side too!

Hooray for blogging! I can't wait to show you guys what all I come up with!
